Environmental and Social Variables for Mexico's Coastal ANPs

Project: Loss and Damage Fund Proposal — Coastal and Marine Protected Areas
Date: February 2026
Country: Mexico

This data dictionary documents all environmental, social, and climate variables compiled for the analysis of Mexico's coastal and marine Natural Protected Areas (Áreas Naturales Protegidas, ANPs). The variables below are drawn from 20+ authoritative data sources—including remote sensing products accessed via Google Earth Engine, official Mexican government statistics, global biodiversity databases, and international climate projections—and are used in the summary data tables, diagnostic report, and interactive dashboard.

For each variable, we provide the human-readable name as it appears in our data tables, the measurement unit, the data source with version/date where applicable, a brief description of what the variable measures, and a link to the original data provider's website. Variables are organized by thematic group.
